Ceramic Biryani Handis & Pots
A biryani is opened at the table, not served from the kitchen, and the moment the lid lifts is the moment guests remember. The right handi keeps the biryani hot, sealed and fragrant until that moment, and makes even a single portion look like a feast. Makrey supplies ceramic biryani handis and biryani pots to luxury hotels, Indian fine dining restaurants and banquet kitchens, and has worked with F&B teams since 1981.
Types of Ceramic Biryani Handis
Ceramic Biryani Pot with Lid and Handle
For individual biryani service, a pot with a handle is the easiest to carry and serve. Each ceramic biryani pot in this range comes with a lid and handle, making it a practical biryani serving pot for single portions. Sizes run from 500 ml to 800 ml (6.25" to 8"), in chocolate brown, black shiny, silver antique, golden yellow, terracotta and unglazed finishes, including a rippled-lid version in blue.
Ceramic Handi with Lid
The classic shape still sells the dish best. Our ceramic handi with lid comes in 500 ml, 700 ml and 1100 ml, in finishes from terracotta and painted terracotta to copper antique, silver antique, metallic, golden yellow and cream matt dotted. Each ceramic serving handi is a biryani handi with lid that goes straight from the pass to the table. A version with a burner, in black matt, keeps the biryani warm at the table.
Dum Pukht Handis
Dum pukht is about sealing in aroma, and the handi should look the part. Our dum pukht ceramic biryani handi with lid, the classic dum biryani handi shape, comes in 600 ml, 800 ml and 1200 ml, in black matt, golden yellow, honey, terracotta, painted terracotta and cream with a blue line, with a shallow 800 ml version in honey and black shiny.
Lagan, Maurya and Kujja Handis
Different biryanis call for different vessels. Our lagan handi comes in 250 ml to 700 ml, with a shallow 800 ml lagan and a rippled lagan with two handles. The Maurya handi with lid comes in 400 ml, 800 ml and 1200 ml, the kujja in 550 ml in silver antique and copper antique, and the rounded handi with lid in 1000 ml and 1400 ml for sharing portions.
Choosing Handis for Your Menu
Use an individual biryani handi of 400 ml to 700 ml for single portions, 800 ml to 1200 ml for two people, and 1400 ml for sharing. Terracotta finishes keep the earthy look of a clay biryani handi, while antique and metallic glazes suit fine dining and heritage properties. Keep one shape and finish per outlet so replacements always match. For unglazed clay pots, see our clay pots collection.

Biryani Handi FAQs
Is a biryani pot ceramic or clay?
A biryani pot can be made in either, and every biryani pot in our range is ceramic. Terracotta finishes give the earthy look of clay, while the glaze keeps the surface easier to clean in daily hotel service. These are serving handis, not nonstick cookware.
What is the difference between a lagan and a dum pukht handi?
A lagan is wide and shallow, while a dum pukht handi is deeper with a fitted lid, traditionally used to seal in steam and aroma.
What sizes of ceramic biryani handis are available?
Our ceramic biryani handis and pots range from 250 ml to 1400 ml, covering single portions to sharing dishes.
