Thalis
A thali serves the whole meal as one picture. Before the first bite, the guest sees the dal, the sabzi, the raita, the rice, the rotis and the sweet laid out around one plate, and that first look sets the mood for everything that follows. The thali itself is the frame for that picture, and in copper or brass it turns a regular lunch into a feast.
Makrey has supplied serveware to Indian hotels and restaurants since 1981. This collection has seven thali sets in copper and brass, from a 10" dhaba thali to a 17" arc thali, in hammered glossy, glossy and matt finishes.
Copper Thali Set
A copper thali set brings warmth and shine to Indian fine dining, wedding menus and heritage hotels. Our copper range includes:
- Copper/SS set (13"): in a hammered glossy finish.
- Copper/SS curved (13"): with a curved rim, in glossy.
- Copper arc set (14"): in hammered glossy, with an arc-shaped design.
- Copper arc set (17"): the largest in this range, in hammered glossy.
Pieces marked copper/SS combine copper and stainless steel. For details of the inner surface of any piece, ask our team before you order.
Brass Thali Set
A brass thali set, or pital thali set, has a warm gold tone that suits weddings, festive menus and royal-themed restaurants. Choose from:
- Brass/SS curved (13"): with a curved rim, in glossy.
- Brass matt (13"): in a matt finish, for a softer, antique look.
Pittal thali service suits Rajasthani, Gujarati and Marwari menus, where the meal is served on a large metal plate with many small bowls. For a brass thali plate with a softer look, choose the matt finish.
Dhaba Thali
The copper dhaba thali is 10" in a glossy finish, a compact size for a quick lunch, a highway-style dhaba menu or a food court. It suits fixed-price lunches where the plate is filled with dal, sabzi, rice and rotis in one go.
Maharaja Thali Set and Big Thali Plate
For a grand maharaja thali set with many dishes, choose a big thali plate: the 17" copper arc thali, or the 14" arc thali for a slightly smaller spread. A large thali gives room for several katoris, rice, breads, papad, pickle and sweets on one plate, which suits wedding lunches, festive specials and signature thalis.
Thali Set for Hotel and Restaurant Service
A thali set for hotel and restaurant use should match the menu, the number of dishes and the look of the dining room:
- Daily lunch: the 10" dhaba thali or a 13" set.
- Fine dining and heritage hotels: the 13" copper/SS hammered set or the brass matt set.
- Weddings and festive menus: the 14" or 17" copper arc set, or a brass set.
- Signature menus: the 17" copper arc set.
Fill each plate with katoris and small bowls in the same metal or a matching glaze. See our portion dishes for copper katoris, handis and baltis, our small serving bowls for dal bowls, and our dip bowls and katoris for chutneys. For pickle on the side, see our pickle sets.
Thali Dinner Set: What to Include
A thali dinner set can include the thali plate, three to six katoris for dal, sabzi and raita, a glass and a dessert bowl. Ask our team which katoris and pieces come with each set, and we will help you add matching pieces for a complete dinner thali set for your menu.
For South Indian meals and banana leaf service, see our stainless steel banana leaf platters in our platters and boards, and for a copper banana leaf plate, our show plates.
Caring for Copper and Brass Thalis
Wash copper and brass pieces by hand with mild soap soon after service, as turmeric, tamarind and pickle can mark metal if they sit for long. Dry each piece straight away to avoid water spots. Polish with a copper or brass cleaner when the shine fades, and store them with a cloth between each one to protect the finish.
