Serving Platters & Buffet Platters
On a buffet, every platter is judged twice. Once at the start, when it is full and perfect, and again an hour later, when half the food has gone. The right platter still looks good at that second moment: the shape holds the food together, the glaze or the wood fills the empty space, and the counter never looks picked over.
Makrey has supplied buffet and tableware to Indian hotels and restaurants since 1981. This is our full range of serving platters, with 122 pieces in ceramic, wood, stainless steel and stone, from 5" small plates to a 36" steel platter, plus grill warmers, kebab stands and table tandoors for live counters.
Ceramic Platters
A ceramic platter brings colour to the buffet and the table, in glazes that match our plates and bowls, such as cream matt dotted, golden yellow, honey, copper antique, black shiny and green crackle.
Oval and Rectangle Ceramic Serving Platters
The oval serving platter is a flexible shape for mains, grills and rice. The coupe oval comes in honey from 10" x 5.5" to 15" x 10", in golden yellow from 10" x 5.5" to 13" x 9", and in terracotta in 11" x 8" and 13" x 9". There are also hammered, heavy, rippled and pointed oval platters in honey, green crackle and black shiny.
Rectangle platters suit kebabs, tikkas and plated starters. They come in 12" x 8" and 14" x 10" in grey speckles and copper antique, 12" x 8" in cream matt dotted (also with a wooden tray), 9.5" x 7" in silver antique and copper antique, and long CT274 platters from 10" x 5" to 18" x 6".
Square Platters and Small Platters
The black shiny square platter comes in five sizes, from 5" to 13", and the wavy square platter in golden yellow comes in 7", 8" and 10". For small platters, choose the 5.75" square plate, the 6" x 4" small rectangle plate, the 5" square plate with walls, or the small triangle plate on a stand, which suit amuse-bouche, canapés and tasting menus.
Fish Shaped Platter and Seafood Platters
A fish shaped platter makes a fish course easy to spot on a buffet. Choose the golden yellow fish platter in 7.5" x 6" and 11" x 9", or the engraved terracotta fish platter in 12" and 15". For grilled fish and prawns, the black shiny seafood platter comes in 10", 12" and 16", and the wooden bark fish platter is 14" x 5.5".
Shaped Ceramic Platters
For a counter that looks different, the range also has banana leaf, lakdri, butterfly, A-shape, L-shape, wave and slim pipe designs, pointed boats up to 1300ml, a shikara boat with a dip partition, and cut, frypan and kunda-style shapes. Cake plates in palam green, cream matt dotted and copper green come in sizes from 5" to 12".

Stainless Platter and Steel Serving Dishes
A stainless platter is easy to clean and does not chip, which suits busy buffets and banquets. The range includes:
- Rectangle: hammered glossy and matt, from 10" x 6" up to 36" x 6" for a long buffet line.
- Square: 8" to 14" in hammered glossy, 6" to 14" with a base ring, and 10" with beading.
- Oval: 10" and 13" with brass beading, copper beading or a copper border.
- Shaped: banana leaf in 12", 16" and 20", leaf, eye, rhombus and chiselled matt designs.
For more steel pieces, see our SS platters and boards.
Stone Slates
Black stone slates come in 12" x 4", 12" x 6" and 12" x 8", and a stone slate with a slant handi works for a tasting trio.
Buffet Platter Guide: Choosing by Dish
- Starters and kebabs: a long rectangle ceramic platter, a stone slate or a wooden board with a handle as a starter serving platter.
- Snacks and finger food: a serving platter for snacks with dips, such as the wooden platters with dips or the shikara boat with a dip partition.
- Mains and grills: oval platters in 13" and above, or a large platter such as the 36" steel platter or a 21" bark platter.
- Fish and seafood: the fish platters and the seafood platter.
- Desserts and cakes: cake plates, small square plates and the wooden dessert frame.
As buffet serving dishes, two or three shapes in one finish keep the counter looking planned, and the same buffet platter shape in two sizes makes refills easy. Add height with our risers and elevations, and keep starters hot on our snack warmers.
Grill Warmers, Kebab Stands and Table Tandoors
For live service, the range includes WI grill warmers, WI bar-be-que servers, hanging kebab stands with one, two or four skewers, copper/SS tawas from 7" to 16", and copper and clay table tandoor sets for kebabs, tikkas and seekh.
Caring for Serving Platters
Wash ceramic and steel platters with warm water and mild soap, and let hot ceramic cool before washing, as a sudden change from hot to cold can crack it. Wipe each wooden platter with a damp cloth, dry it straight away, and do not soak it. Wipe stone slates with a damp cloth and dry them fully before storing.
