Ceramic Pasta Bowls & Pasta Plates
Try twirling spaghetti on a flat dinner plate. The fork slides, the sauce runs to the rim, and the last few strands are chased round the plate. A pasta bowl fixes that with one simple thing: a gentle wall to twirl against, and a shallow well that keeps the sauce with the pasta until the last bite.
Makrey has supplied ceramic tableware to Indian hotels, restaurants and cafés since 1981. This collection has ceramic pasta bowls and plates, from 8" to 12", in black matt, white, cream matt dotted, terracotta, green crackle, palam green, grey speckles, copper antique and diamond red.
Ceramic Pasta Bowls by Shape
Frypan Bowls
The frypan bowl is shaped like a small frying pan, which gives a dish a fresh, "straight from the pan" look at the table. It comes in 8" in black matt, white, terracotta, terracotta white line, cream matt dotted and grey speckles, and in 12" in black matt, white and terracotta. The 8" size works as one of the individual pasta bowls for a single portion, and the 12" works as a large pasta serving bowl for a table to share.
Shallow Rippled-Rim Bowls
Shallow pasta bowls suit plated dishes, risotto and gnocchi, where the dish should be seen from above. The shallow rippled bowl comes in 8.5" and 9.5" in black matt and cream matt dotted. The footed shallow rippled bowl stands on a small foot, in 8.5", in green crackle and palam green.
Hole-Design and Hammered Bowls
The hole-design bowl comes in 8" and 11", in copper antique and green crackle, and the hammered bowl is 8" in diamond red. These glazes add colour to the table and suit modern European and fusion menus.
Pasta Plates and Deep Pasta Plates
A pasta plate sits between a plate and a bowl: wide like a plate, with a raised edge to hold the sauce. Our deep pasta plate is 9" in cream matt dotted, and the 9" pasta bowl in cream matt dotted works as a pasta bowl plate for creamy pastas and saucy mains. Pasta plates and bowls in the same finish give a menu two plating options without changing the look of the table.
Black and White Pasta Bowls
Black pasta bowls in black matt, in the frypan and shallow rippled shapes, make red sauces, pesto and fresh herbs stand out, and suit dark, modern interiors. White pasta bowls, in the frypan shape in 8" and 12", give a clean, classic look that works with any menu and any table. For a warmer, Italian trattoria feel, choose terracotta or cream matt dotted.
To match the rest of the table, see our black matt and cream matt dotted crockery.
Pasta Bowls for Restaurants: Choosing by Dish
- Spaghetti and long pasta: spaghetti bowls with a side wall, such as the 8" frypan or the 9" pasta bowl, so the fork can twirl against the side.
- Penne, fusilli and baked pasta: the 8" frypan bowl or the deep pasta plate.
- Risotto and gnocchi: shallow rippled bowls in 8.5" or 9.5".
- Sharing and family-style service: a 12" frypan or an 11" hole-design bowl as a pasta serving bowl in the middle of the table.
The same bowls also suit Asian noodles, Indo-Chinese hakka noodles, khow suey and large salads. For salads and sides, see our salad bowls and platters, and for soups, our soup bowls.
Caring for Ceramic Bowls and Plates
Rinse bowls soon after service, as tomato and cheese sauces are harder to remove once dry. Let hot bowls cool before washing, as a sudden change from hot to cold can crack ceramic. Stack each bowl with care to protect the rims, especially the rippled and footed shapes. If you plan to use any bowl in an oven or microwave, ask our team which pieces suit that use before you order.
