Ceramic Dinner Plates & Quarter Plates XL
A chef can spend twenty minutes on a dish, and the guest decides in two seconds whether it looks good. The plate is the frame around that picture. Choose the right shape, size and glaze, and the same biryani, steak or thali looks like it belongs to a better restaurant.
Makrey has supplied ceramic tableware to Indian hotels and restaurants since 1981. This collection has 19 ceramic dinner plate designs, each with a matching quarter plate, in dinner sizes from 10" to 12" and quarter sizes of 7" and 8", in black matt, cream matt dotted, golden yellow, copper antique, silver antique, honey, red, sea green and more.
Ceramic Dinner Plates by Shape
Georgen Plates
The Georgen is the widest range of ceramic dinner plates in this collection. The plain Georgen comes in 10" with a 7" quarter plate, in Lw, copper antique and golden yellow, and in 11" with an 8" quarter plate in cream matt dotted. The jali-cut Georgen has a jali-cut pattern, in 10" with a 7" quarter plate, in honey and black matt. The rippled Georgen is 11", with a 7" quarter plate, in red, silver antique, copper antique and golden yellow.
Coupe Plates
Coupe plates have no raised rim, so the food can spread to the edge, which suits modern plating. The plain coupe plate is 10" with a 7" quarter plate, in black matt, cream matt painted, Lw and golden yellow. The rippled coupe comes in 10" and 11", with a 7" quarter plate, in black matt and cream matt dotted.
Diplomat, Stone and Emboss Plates
The Diplomat plate is 10" with a 7" quarter plate in Lw. The stone Diplomat is 12" in black matt stone, with a 7" quarter plate, the largest plate in this collection, for steaks, sizzling mains and full thali-style servings. The emboss plate is 10" with a 7" quarter plate in sea green, with a raised pattern on the surface.
Dinner Plates and Quarter Plates: Which Size?
- 12": steaks, grills and large mains that need space.
- 11": a full Indian meal, biryani with sides, or a main with sauce and garnish.
- 10": everyday dinner plates for restaurants and buffets.
- 7" and 8" quarter plates: starters, salads, desserts, bread and side plates.
Most menus need both sizes. If you serve starters, desserts and buffet counters on quarter plates, plan for more quarter plates than dinner plates.
Black Dinner Plates and Coloured Glazes
Black dinner plates make colourful food stand out, from green chutney to red tandoori and fresh salads. In this collection, black dinnerware comes in black matt in the coupe, rippled coupe and jali-cut Georgen shapes, and in black matt stone in the 12" Diplomat. For more pieces in the same finish, see our black matt crockery and black matt stone series.
Golden yellow, honey and copper antique give a warm look that suits Indian food. Cream matt dotted gives a soft, handmade look for cafés and brunch menus, and you can match it with our cream matt dotted crockery.
Hotel Dinner Plates for Buffet and Table Service
Hotel dinner plates need to look the same across the restaurant, the buffet and the banquet hall. Choose one shape and one or two finishes for the whole outlet, so every replacement plate matches the ones already in use. For the buffet, a 10" or 11" plate is easy for guests to carry, and a 7" quarter plate works for the starter and dessert counters.
For a formal table, add a show plate or charger plate under each plate. For bowls and other serving pieces, see our portion dishes and pasta bowls and plates.
Building a Ceramic Dinner Set for Your Restaurant
These plates are sold as dinner and quarter plates, not as boxed sets. To build a ceramic dinner set for a restaurant or hotel, pick a dinner plate and quarter plate in one finish, then add portion bowls, pasta bowls and serving dishes in the same glaze from our ceramic dinnerware range. This way, every piece on the table matches, and you buy only the pieces your menu needs. For the full range of crockery plates, bowls and cups, browse our tableware and crockery.
Caring for Ceramic Plates
Scrape food off before washing and rinse plates soon after service, as dried sauces are harder to remove. Let hot plates cool before washing, as a sudden change from hot to cold can crack ceramic. Stack plates of the same size together and do not slide them across each other, to protect the glaze. If you plan to use any plate in a microwave or oven, ask our team which pieces suit that use before you order.
