Acrylic Cloches & Food Domes
Eleven sizes, one simple job: keep food covered without hiding it. A clear food cloche lets guests see the cake, the pastries or the cut fruit, while keeping out dust, flies and dry air during a long service. On a buffet or a café counter, that is the difference between food that looks freshly set and food that looks left out.
Makrey has supplied buffet and counter display pieces to Indian hotels since 1981. This collection covers clear acrylic cloche domes in 11 sizes, from a 3.5" mini dome to a 15" cake dome. If you are choosing a food cover dome for hotel buffets, bakery counters, cafés or banquets, this guide will help you pick the right sizes.
Acrylic Cloche Domes in 11 Sizes
Our acrylic cloche dome comes in 3.5", 4", 6", 7", 8", 9", 10", 11", 12", 13.75" and 15" diameters, all in a clear, glossy finish. Group them by what you serve:
- 3.5" to 6": mini food domes that work as a dessert cover for amuse bouche, single desserts, butter, jams and petit fours. Pair them with our amuse bouche pieces and dessert cups.
- 7" to 10": mid-size domes for a pastry display, muffins, cheese portions and small cakes on breakfast counters.
- 11" to 15": large domes for whole cakes, bread loaves, cut fruit platters and grazing boards.
Cloche Cake Covers and Cake Domes
For bakery and dessert counters, the 11" to 15" sizes work as cake domes, and each one makes a simple bakery display dome for breads, croissants and tarts. Acrylic is a clear, hard plastic, so these double as plastic cake covers that are far lighter than glass and easier for staff to lift dozens of times a day. Set the dome over a cake stand or a flat platter, and the cake stays soft and on display through the afternoon.
Food Cover Dome or Glass Cloche: Which One?
An acrylic food cover dome is lighter and less likely to break than glass. As a cloche for buffet use, it suits busy counters where guests lift the cover themselves many times an hour. Glass looks heavier and more formal, and suits a cheese station or a fine dining table. If you want a board and cover together, see our wooden cheese platters with glass cloches.
How to Choose the Right Cloche Size
Measure the plate, board or cake stand the cloche will sit on. The dome should be about 1" wider than the food so it sits inside the rim without touching the food. Check the height too: a tall cake or a stacked pastry tower needs a dome with more height than a flat cheese plate.
A few tips from buffet setups:
- Let hot food cool first. Acrylic is meant for room-temperature and cold food. Steam from hot dishes fogs the dome and can mark the surface.
- Lift the display. Place domed items on risers and elevations so guests can see them from across the counter.
- Label what is inside. A small tag holder in front of each dome saves guests from lifting every cover to check.
- Keep cold items cold. For cut fruit and desserts on a long buffet, place domed platters next to a chilling unit.
Cleaning Acrylic Cloches
Wash acrylic domes with mild soap, lukewarm water and a soft cloth or sponge, then dry them with a microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, and avoid glass cleaners that contain ammonia or alcohol, as they can cloud and crack acrylic over time. Store domes stacked by size with a soft cloth between them to prevent scratches.
Buy Cloche Domes for Hotels, Cafés and Bakeries
A hotel buffet usually needs domes in three or four sizes rather than one, so most orders are planned by counter: small domes for desserts, mid sizes for pastries and a few large cake domes. Tell us your counters and what you serve, and our team will quote the right mix, with GST billing and delivery across India. For the rest of the setup, see our charlies, platters and boards and full hotel and banquet buffetware.
Cloche FAQs
What is a cloche used for?
A cloche food cover is a dome-shaped cover that keeps food protected from dust, insects and dry air while keeping it visible. It is used on buffets, bakery counters and dining tables.
Is an acrylic cloche better than a glass cloche?
For busy buffets and counters, yes. Acrylic is lighter and less likely to break. Glass suits formal displays where the cover is lifted less often.
Can I use an acrylic cloche dome for hot food?
It is best for room-temperature and cold food. Let hot dishes cool before covering them, as steam can fog the acrylic.
Which cloche size do I need for a cake?
Most whole cakes need an 11" to 15" dome. Choose a dome about 1" wider than the cake and tall enough to clear the top.
